Easy Like Sunday Morning

This morning: coffee, computer, and two books, Napa & Sonoma day by day and The Poisonwood Bible.

Jeremy and I decided to honeymoon in Napa and San Francisco. From the first book, I'll make a list of things to do, then he'll make a list of things to do. Then we'll compare the two lists and decide what to do on our honeymoon. What a process! So far, we've agreed on a night tour of Alcatraz and a leisurely kayaking trip down a river in Napa, provided the water isn't 45 degrees in October.

I started the second book last month, but got sucked into three memoirs that begged to be read. Of the Poisonwood girls, I think I like Adah the best. She doesn't talk; she has Cerebral Palsy. But as she narrates her part of the book, she seems to have the best and most accurate insight on her family. I'm committed to finishing this book next. Then I'll be onto find more memoirs, as they seem to be my new favorites! And I'm open to suggestions.

  1. Did someone say memoir? I am currently finishing up my second memoir writing class and LOVE it. I wrote a 50,000 memoir, but have sense decided, personal essays are the way to go (at least for my writing).
I have enjoyed, Eat Pray Love, the author Ann Lamott- she is my favorite, Boys of My Youth, Hurry Down Sunshine, The Year of Magical Thinking, Jeanette Walls- Glass Castle- AMAZING, The Heartbreaking Work of a Staggering Genius, David Sadaris and Sloane Crosly- not so much, but worth checking out, too sardonic and eager for the punch line for me. So, that should get you started!!! San Fran is great!! I hope you love it, are you getting married in October? We did too. Beautiful fall weddings- ours was in the Rose Garden. And, you should read B. Kingsolvers Animal, Vegetable, Miracle if you have not.

  2. Stefani, thanks for the suggestions. Ann Lamott is for sure on my list, as well as Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.

We're excited about our October wedding. It'll be in Tyler at a cute church. :)

  3. I read PB my second summer in RO b/c it was the thickest book in the pile and I knew I could only take one with me given the strict weight limit allowed for our bags. :-) Of all the Oprah books I've read, I think that's the only one that I remotely enjoyed and even then, do any of those Oprah books end happily? (I honestly don't remember if PB does)...I think Oprah is anti-happy books myself. :-)
